8-6 Rockies
The Colorado Rockies pulled off a thrilling win against Boston in the 9th inning of tonight’s game. Ace pitcher Ubaldo Jimenez needed some help to avoid getting his second loss this season and he certainly got it off the bats of Ian Stewart and Jason Giambi. The Rockies bullpen was helpful as well, giving up 0 runs in a little less than 3 innings of work. That set up the 9th inning against Boston closer Jonathan Papelbon who earned his 2nd blown save of the season and also the loss.
The Rockies took an early 2nd inning lead off a Miguel Olivo two-run home run, and built the lead an inning later by loading the bases and getting two more home off of a couple of base hits. However the lead was lost by the 6th inning when Jimenez gave up three doubles and a home run. The lead remained 6-5 until the 9th inning.
Ian Stewart lead off the 9th inning. On the second pitch of the at-bat he launched his 8th homer of the season to the second deck in right field to tie up the ballgame. After a Clint Barmes single and a Ryan Spilborghs sacrifice bunt, Jason Giambi stepped up to the plate. The crowd got loud as the adrenaline built. Coors Field was rocking as he sent the second home run of the inning into the stands in right field and walked it off for a very exciting win.

2-1 Rockies
The Rockies bullpen nearly blew it but the game was saved by stellar defense from shortstop Clint Barmes to nab Mike Lowell and get the final out. Manager Jim Tracy decided not to throw Manuel Corpas or closer Huston Street upon his call-up from Triple-A and instead throw Matt Belisle for the save. Belisle took over the 9th inning with a 2-0 lead and managed to give up a run before being saved by the stellar defense behind him.
There were some lineup changes before the game once again. Carlos Gonzalez made his return to the lineup today after being listed day-to-day with a minor knee injury. RHP Huston Street was called up from Triple-A Colorado Springs and RHP Juan Rincon was sent down. Rookie Chris Nelson made his first career start at third base today and batted 8th out of the lineup, where he got the first hit of his career.
Rockies starter Jhoulys Chacin had a spectacular outing, going 6.2 innings with 0 runs, 5 walks, 5 K’s, and lowered his ERA to 3.56. His counterpart, Jon Lester, gave up 1 run, 1 walk, 6 K’s, and lowered his ERA to 3.03.

6-1 Brewers
Rough day for the Rockies interim closer Manuel Corpas, who gave up five runs and got no out in the 9th inning…..
Rockies offense just couldn’t seem to get it going today with an interesting lineup from manager Jim Tracy that included utility-player Melvin Mora in left field and veteran Jason Giambi filling at first, giving first base regular Todd Helton a day of rest. Rockies starter Aaron Cook had a good outing, going 7 innings with 1 run, 4 walks, 5 Ks, and lowering his ERA to 4.82. His counterpart, Brewers starter Randy Wolf lasted 7 innings with 1 run, 4 walks, 2 Ks, and lowering his ERA to 4.79.
Rockies recent call-up, Chris Nelson, made his major league debut at the plate today, where he had a sharp line out to a sprawling Randy Wolf (it was an impressive catch) but raised some eyebrows nonetheless. It should be interesting to see how Rockies manager Jim Tracy plays his role as Tulowitzki heals.
Rockies Lineup:
Herrera 2B
Mora LF
Spilborghs CF
Giambi 1B
Hawpe RF
Iannetta C
Stewart 3B
Barmes SS
Cook P (Nelson PH, Beimel P, Corpas P, Rincon P)
Brewers Lineup:
Weeks 2B
Hart RF
Fielder 1B
Braun LF
Counsell 3B
Gomez CF
Kottaras C
Escobar SS
Wolf P (Hoffman P, Inglett PH, Axford P)
WP: Hoffman. LP: Corpas.
